Your Journey Day by Day

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
Arrive at Kigali International Airport where your professional driver guide will warmly welcome you. After a short orientation, transfer to Hotel des Mille Collines. As you settle in, take in the city’s rolling hills and gentle hum, a fitting introduction to the Land of a Thousand Hills. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 2: Kigali Genocide Memorial and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Begin your morning with a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial. This deeply moving site honors the memory of more than one million Rwandans who lost their lives during the 1994 genocide. The visit offers a chance for reflection and understanding of Rwanda’s incredible journey of recovery and unity.


Afterwards, embark on a scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park. Along the way, admire the changing landscapes as the city gives way to lush countryside. Upon arrival at Tiloreza Volcanoes Ecolodge, check in and unwind amid breathtaking views of the Virunga volcano chain.

Day 3: Mountain Gorilla Trekking
Today, rise early for the adventure of a lifetime. After a safety briefing at park headquarters, you will trek through dense bamboo forests in search of mountain gorillas. The hour spent with these gentle giants is unforgettable as you observe their families, from playful juveniles to powerful silverbacks.
After this extraordinary encounter, return to the lodge for lunch and a soothing massage. The rest of the day is yours to relax and reflect.

Day 4: Golden Monkey Trekking and Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village
Your morning begins with a trek to find the lively golden monkeys. These beautiful primates, with their bright coats and curious nature, are found only in the high-altitude forests of the Virunga Mountains. The experience is filled with laughter as you watch them leap through the trees.
In the afternoon, visit Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village. Here, you will be welcomed with traditional songs, dances, and stories that offer a glimpse into Rwanda’s rich heritage. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Transfer to Akagera National Park and Sunset Boat Cruise
After breakfast, journey to Akagera National Park. The drive reveals Rwanda’s varied scenery, from misty highlands to warm savannah. On arrival, check in at Mantis Akagera Game Lodge. In the evening, set out on a sunset boat cruise along Lake Ihema. Glide across calm waters where hippos, crocodiles, and water birds gather. The golden hour transforms the lake into a shimmering canvas of color.

Day 6: Full-Day Safari in Akagera
Today is dedicated to exploring Akagera’s vast wilderness. From dawn until dusk, traverse the park’s diverse habitats in search of elephants, lions, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, and more. Pause for a picnic lunch at one of the park’s scenic spots. Each turn offers new surprises, from herds grazing peacefully to predators on the move. End the day with dinner at your lodge.

Day 7: Return to Kigali and Departure
After breakfast, bid farewell to the savannah. Enjoy the final drive back to Kigali with time for a relaxed lunch along the way. Depending on your flight schedule, you will be dropped off at the airport or your chosen accommodation.
